The Group Policy Client (gpsvc) service is responsible for applying settings that are configured by administrators for the computer and users through Group Policy. If the service is stopped or disabled, the settings are not applied, and applications and components cannot be managed through Group Policy. Components or applications that depend on Group Policy might not function if this service is stopped or disabled.
The Group Policy Client service is installed by default and its startup type is Automatic. When the Group Policy Client service is started in its default configuration, it logs by on using the Local System account. The service cannot be disabled or modified through the Services snap-in console.
The Group Policy Client service is dependent upon on the following system components:
- Mup
- Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
- DCOM Server Process Launcher
- RPC Endpoint Mapper
